Theater geeks descending on Miami (I’ll be one of them)
I am thrilled to be joining my colleagues and friends from the performing arts world at this year’s Theatre Communications Group national conference in Miami.
The themes this year are: Audience & Community Engagement, Well-being & Wellness, and Theatre Journalism. There certainly is no shortage of thought-provoking programming! Both opening and closing plenaries are exciting, featuring award-winning author Edwidge Danticat and one of my favorite playwrights, the Pulitzer prize-winning Quiara Hudes.
There are so many great sessions and speakers that I’m struggling to narrow down my schedule! However, there are a few events that I am particularly keen on attending:
- Anti-Racist Resources for White People
- Skills-Building Writing Workshop with Nilo Cruz
- Public Space: How Theater Lobbies Can Impact Programming, Audiences, and Revenue Streams
- Experiencing Shock and Awe: Finding the Creative Gifts in Real Life Trauma
And what better way to kick off the conference than with a walking-tour and conversation with local arts and culture makers through Calle Ocho and Little Havana?!
Enough about my itinerary – what’s your plan for TCG 2019? I’m looking forward to connecting with old friends and meeting new folks; give me a shout if you’d like to meet up between sessions or grab a coffee!
