This month we’re proud to welcome Dr. Rachelle Brooks, an expert on learning outcomes assessment, to the higher ed team. (See news item below for details.) Rachelle will help manage our growing education research practice, which now features a dedicated team of five social scientists led by vice president Bill Hayward. (We also have a dedicated team for arts & culture research, but that’s another newsletter.)

 

Perhaps it’s the latest wave of college and university capital campaigns, or the increasing realization that alumni are crucial engine of success for schools, but lately we’re doing a good deal of alumni research. After all, alumni and donor stewardship is more important than ever, and our recent studies have helped Stanford, University of Chicago, UCLA Anderson, George Washington University, and other schools manage those relationships more strategically and successfully. (We’ve summarized a few broad findings from those and other studies in a brief article below.)

We’re also busy researching prospects, admits, and current students to strengthen campus programs and services. With Rachelle on board, we’ll be moving into student learning outcomes assessment and integrating those studies with other research about the student experience.

To help higher ed professionals broaden their research skills, vice president Bill Hayward and associate Anne Lee will lead a pre-conference workshop at the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) 2012 annual conference in New Orleans.
