Northwestern University’s Rachelle L. Brooks Named a Research Fellow at Slover Linett
We’re pleased to announce that Rachelle Brooks, who has been affiliated with Slover Linett as a research fellow since 2010, has joined the firm as senior associate for higher education. Dr. Brooks will direct research and assessment studies for our college and university clients, creating new knowledge about outcomes, experiences, and needs across the student life cycle — prospects, enrolled students, and alumni.
A nationally recognized expert on learning outcomes assessment in the social sciences and humanities, Brooks brings an interdisciplinary perspective to her research, which has included national, longitudinal studies and large-scale data analyses funded by the Mellon, Teagle, and Spencer Foundations and the American Educational Research Association.
Brooks joins vice president Bill Hayward and three other full-time researchers to comprise a dedicated higher ed team at Slover Linett. (The firm also works with cultural institutions in the arts and sciences.) Her arrival gives the firm additional capabilities in quantitative research for areas such as admissions and marketing, student life and campus services, and alumni relations and development. In addition, Brooks’ expertise in assessment and evaluation opens new possibilities for exploring student learning outcomes, program evaluation and development, and the integration of outcomes assessment with more traditional research functions.
“Slover Linett already has a great reputation working on questions related to student life, academic engagement, marketing, and alumni relations,” Brooks says. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to all of that while adding some areas I’m particularly passionate about — assessment and student outcomes. One of the most difficult things that institutions are being asked to do these days is demonstrate the educational value they offer, and we’re going to be uniquely able to help them do that.”
Hayward couldn’t be happier to have Brooks, a frequent collaborator when both were at Northwestern University, join his staff. “Rachelle is just an outstanding thinker on education issues,” he says, “and on the ways research and assessment can move things forward. We’re going to be able to do so much more for our clients and for the field at large with her on board.”
