Alumni and Development Analysis Delivered to University of Chicago
Over 1,500 research and assessment professionals from colleges and universities converged on Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend for the annual meeting of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR). We presented findings from a study of the relationship between student engagement and later alumni connectedness.
Slover Linett has been swimming in a sea of exciting new projects this year. But we’re not too busy to come up for AIR’s Annual Forum, which was held in our own back yard this year. It was the association’s 50th anniversary gathering, so we were especially proud to be among the presenters, along with our esteemed colleague from the University of Chicago.
The firm’s education practice leader, Bill Hayward, and the University of Chicago’s senior director of analytics, Diana Joyce, gave a presentation titled, “Student Satisfaction and Engagement, Outcomes, and Alumni Connectedness to their Alma Mater: A Comparative Study of Four Graduating Classes at a Major, Highly Selective Private Research University Spanning Three Decades.”
The study was a comprehensive analysis of survey data collected from four alumni cohorts from the University of Chicago (1985, 1998, 2003 and 2007 graduating classes).
Our analysis furnished the University of Chicago with valuable insights into how its alumni stay connected to their alma mater and how the connection changes through the life cycle. Most illuminatingly, the study shed light on the relationship between graduates’ feelings about their student experience and the kind of alumni they become.
Hayward was proud to become part of the long history of research presented at AIR’s Annual Forum. “My hat is off to the organizers of this year’s conference, and the 49 that preceded it,” he says. “This organization has pumped a lot of oxygen into our collective understanding of higher education.”
